Are You a Martian, Like Me?
Sometimes, I feel like I landed here from another planet. And I’ve felt that way since I was a young child. A psychic told me once that I see the hidden relationships others don’t see. That’s maybe one of the kinder ways people have described how I think. I’m wondering if there are more of my kind out there. Maybe even you?
At the gym the other day, the young woman on the elliptical machine next to me was laughing so hard I thought she might fall off. She was watching an old TV show on the screen mounted to her machine. Which show? This one:
So I switched over to that channel and watched a bit and laughed, too,. And then I thought, hey! That could be me! Maybe I crashed here from another planet and that’s why I don’t see what’s obvious to other people? Maybe that’s why I see things other people don’t see?
It was a much sexier explanation than the more likely one I found a couple of days later.
Turns out I’m not a Martian. I’m an Introvert. Who knew?
And you know who else is from Planet Introvert? Yep. Lee Child, Jack Reacher, Kim Otto, Willa Carson, and Jess Kimball, too. Hey, takes one to know one, right?
Click on the photo below to take the quiz and let me know if you’re one of us, too. And tell me how you know in the comments below.
Looking forward to hearing from others of my kind. Meanwhile, live long and prosper. (No, wait, that’s another planet altogether…)
Na-Nu Na-Nu. Nope. Wrong planet again. Dang. Wonder what folks from Planet Introvert say?
As always, thanks for reading!
Fun post! This pretty much describes me. The only difference is my blood pressure, which used to be so beautifully low, now rides high since the birth of my daughter. With her intense personality I don’t see that changing anytime soon. π
Glad to know you’re my kind, Deb! π
I qualify with 21 out of the 23. Now I’m thinking it must be one of the qualifications to be a writer. We don’t need other people like extroverts do because we get all of the socializing we need in our heads with … our characters in our make believe worlds. π
Apparently Planet Introvert produces highly competitive carbon based units, too, Kristy! That’s a pretty high score! π
Oh yeh that’s me, didn’t think you could put me in a category but there it is.
I love quiet time by myself, I do have a constant inner monologue going on, I really like to think about something before I open my mouth and get into trouble, which if I think about it I did a lot of when I was growing up and still do to certain extent, now what do I do with this knowledge. Hmmmmm will have to get back to you on that.
Yep, Lynne, you’re one of us! Glad to have you in the Crowd! π
Um, yeah, that’s why my blog is named Of Martians and Marshmallows. π I get lost in time by myself to the point I sometimes think I need a keeper to be sure I eat, etc.
And, no I don’t have a monologue, I have dialogues going on in my head — ooops! Maybe I shouldn’t have said that, sounds like I might have more problems than just being an introvert. Danger, Will Robinson! Klaatu barada nikto! Na-nu Na-nu. And all that jazz!
Multiple voices in your head, Lynette?!? Yowser!! Oh, wait….you’re a writer from Planet Introvert. Makes total sense! π
Definitely an introvert here. I need that downtime almost more than I need food. π I was surprised by the low blood pressure thing, though. I’ve got low blood pressure, but I thought it was because I was always so calm and cool. π Thanks for sharing this, Diane. π
Wow, how did all those smiley faces get into my comment? LOL!
Planet Introvert natives are friendly, Sheila, and apparently we smile a lot, too! π
Na nu, na nu Diane! I never quite knew what that meant. lol. Oh, and I loved My Favorite Martian. So I took the test. I feel like a half-caf (half decaf and half caffeine) or maybe half and half. Ooh, they do go nice together, don’t they? That would be me. A little bit extrovert and a little bit introvert. Is that like a little bit country and a little bit rockin’ roll? Can you tell I like to mix things up Diane? π
Introvertians are quite versatile, Karen. You fit right in with us — even if you are a “half-outie”! π
Oh yes, this is so me! 21 out of 23…Just had this discussion tonight with 2 fellow introverts…I used to feel so weird & strange but not any more!
So glad to see another “innie” from our home planet, Diane! Thanks for stopping by and for the comment! π
Most of my favorite people are introverts–my siblings, my parents, my husband, all of my best friends growing up… I think we balance one another out, and that there’s so much beauty in both temperaments – depending on how we use them.
One perk of introvert-ism (is that a word?? ;)) that I admire is the ability to deal thrive with lengthy solace. I love my alone time, and need it, but I also start to feel caved in and lonely after a while. As a writer, well, you can guess! Thank goodness for social media and conferences. I think they both help us all interact in ways in which we’re comfy.
Great post, Diane!
Well said, August. You are, indeed, one of us! We’re proud to claim you! π
Oh, I am definitely an introvert. I have known this since I was in my teens. I crave alone time. It has been an interesting journey raising extrovert children!
Oh, I’ll bet that has been a challenge, Ann. I’m married to an extrovert and it’s always been a good thing. But for him, there’ve been many adventures I’d have missed in life! π
I always thought I was just weird and different but turns out maybe I was just introverted,That quiz was spot on.Thank you I feel good now as I’m in some very fine company.
Glad to hear you’re feeling good about our kind, Doreen. I know exactly what you mean! π
I ride the fence. Some days I’m extroverted and want to be in a crowd with all the attention, other days I’d like to NOT be in a crowd and just be alone to recharge. No idea what’s up with that.
So you’re an ambivalent innie, Melinda? We’re glad to have you either way. π
I check all 23 boxes, but then I’ve known I’m an introvert for a long time. I’m such an introvert, even some other introverts look extroverted by comparison!
Well, Ciara, that’s an impressive score! We may have to crown you Supreme Ruler of our planet! Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the comment! π
Always known I’m an introvert, but never realized my low blood pressure was associated with it! Very interesting read. I hit 22 out of 23. If Ciara is the Supreme Ruler, I’m definitely her assistant! π
Assistant to the Supreme Ruler, Andi? Ha! Great title! Do you think a true introvert would make up her own title? Hmmmmmm??? π How about Vice-Supreme Ruler? Or Supreme Ruler Regent? Or…..Anybody? Suggestions??
You obviously didn’t get the memo from Home World Command.
No one should be talking about you-know-where, because if those noisy Extravertians every hear about you-know-where, they will want to drop by.
Also, since your head injury during the crash has left you in need of a reboot, I have been granted approval to inform you of the officially sanctioned means of greeting and goodbyeing in hopes that it may jar your memofy. Here it is:
π
Good points, HC! I didn’t think about the Extrovertians’ espionage aspects of this post. Yikes! And you’re absolutely right about the official greeting, too! WHAT WAS I THINKING?? π
