When you can’t avoid pirates, joining them is the only option. So it is for residents of South Tampa during this Saturday’s Gasparilla PirateFest. You think not? Check out this crowd during the much smaller Children’s Parade and imagine how many more will be there awaiting the arrival of the pirate ship Jose Gaspar:
You’ve never heard of Jose Gaspar or his ship? Here’s what it looks like:
Throngs of people flooding our normally quiet historic neighborhood streets bring with them an energy otherwise absent. Which is okay. They leave their inhibitions outside the neighborhood limits, which is not okay. Ye Mystic Krewe, the Rough Riders, Ye Loyal Krewe of Grace O’Malley, The Knights of Sant’Yago and more than 50 Krewes have failed to subdue the landlubbers for more than 100 years. No reason to believe they’ll be more successful this time, right? Sometimes, it seems as if they’re not really trying…..
Why, surely someone could be killed, right? We might not even notice. At least, not right away if the dastardly deed was done under cover of darkness like this:
How could a writer possibly resist this? I couldn’t. I hope you won’t be able to resist the read, either. Especially now that Secret Justice is available in paperback.
For Willa Carson and her husband, George, that Gasparilla PirateFest Saturday, there was, quite literally, no way out of paradise and precious little justice applied to the rowdy revelers. This much everyone expected.
What was unexpected? Two men, one woman, old love and fresh heartache. A recipe for disaster with no way out. Except, perhaps, the Secret Justice of murder.

Wow, Diane, those are quite the pictures. I’ll bet the event is pretty awesome. And the cover of your latest paperback is lovely. Congratulations!
Thanks, Sheila. Gasparilla is pretty awesome! You should come sometime. Of course, the main attraction is that it’s freezing cold everywhere else in the country! 😀
That pirate fest looks like a ton of fun and a fantastic setting for a thriller. I’ll be checking out Secret Justice! (Who can resist a schooner?)
LOL, Debra! These pirates believe they are attempting to overcome resistance — so they must think a bunch of folks who can resist a schooner! (But of course, you can see from the crowds that you’re right!) Thanks for reading!
Oh, wow. The cover alone has me! I will add that to my Must-Read list. I’d love to get lost in paradise, especially if I get to solve a murder along the way. 🙂
Thanks, Emma! Hope you enjoy the book and thanks for stopping by!
I voted Diane, I voted! I don’t know if the Rafflecopter worked or not. I, as you know, did not have much success with it. I hoped it worked for you. And what a cool festival. Congrats on the paperback!
Thanks, Karen. I’m so sorry the rafflecopter was acting up for you. I’m glad we got your vote, though. The contest ends soon!
