Saturday Special: Happy National Strawberry Day!

So, this week I told you about a new series I’m working on. It’s about Michael Flint, The Heir Hunter. It involves a very cold case. An armed robbery gone bad back in 1989. Two people were murdered and one escaped. Where is the killer today? It’s all completely fiction, of course!

And then I told you about some recent real-life developments in the world of Italian crime. The good news was that some organized crime rings were thwarted, but the fact that such crime rings exist and are so active is, well, good fodder for a fiction writer like me.

Sigh. It’s time for some more good news, isn’t it? It’s the weekend, after all. How about this: February 27 is National Strawberry Day!

Strawberry Festival Florida

Every year, Florida celebrates strawberries with the Strawberry FestivalIt’s a major event, sort of like a state fair, with at least some headliners who you’ve probably heard of.

Here’s a portion of the list of musical acts this year:
Big & Rich
Dick Fox’s Golden Boys starring Frankie Avalon, Fabian and Bobbie Rydell
Donny and Marie Osmond
Martina McBride
The Oak Ridge Boys

Which performer on this list would you most like to see? Does your town have anything like a Strawberry Festival? Press the ‘Comment’ button below to let me know!

It’s A Bad Month for Italian Crime

When we hear about a food product “Made In Italy,” or when we imagine eating at an Italian café or shopping at a produce stand on the streets of Rome, it’s a mouth-watering, dreamy, appetite-inducing fantasy, isn’t it? But law enforcement officers have let us know this month that we can’t take that for granted. There […]

Cults: Do They Still Exist?

Researching for my novels takes me down some pretty strange roads. Right now, I’m working on a crime novel (totally fiction!) that involves a very cold case. An armed robbery gone bad back in 1989. Two people were murdered and one escaped. Where is the killer today? This is the first book in a new […]

Don’t Know Jack: Behind The Book

Did you see that? Otto and Gaspar have been hunting Reacher for three novels and three novellas now. (And yes, I’m working on novel #4!) But in the beginning, when FBI Agents Kim Otto and Carlos Gaspar made their debut back in 2012, readers had lots of questions! In case you missed it, here’s the […]

Florida Crime: Blame It On The Heat?

Crime in Paradise is a frequent theme of my books. I’ve written eight books set in the Sunshine State. Partly because I live in Florida and know it well. But also because the statistics show that Florida’s weather may influence crime rates and the types of crime found in the state. When we think of […]

Frank Abagnale Con Man Quote

The Con Man Who Was Ahead Of His Time

You know who Frank Abagnale is, right? He was the trickster and imposter who posed as at least eight different professionals when he was between the ages of 15 and 21 in the 1960’s. He spent a few years in prison, then took a job working for the federal government. (No jokes about government workers, […]

Why I Love Florida, Reason #1

There’s a reason a lot of my books take place in Florida. Lots of reasons, actually. But one reason? The weather. The stars of my books are smart women. Why wouldn’t they live in Florida??! 😉 Willa Carson loves the weather in Tampa. She drives a convertible named Greta, and she can’t understand why anyone […]

What Does the Year of the Monkey Have In Store For You?

Monday, February 8, 2016 begins the Lunar New Year. It’s the Year of the Fire Monkey, also called the Year of the Red Monkey. Chinese astrologists tell us it looks like it’s going to be an unpredictable year, though not necessarily in a bad way. They tell us there’s no sense in planning too elaborately […]
