Dubai is 3-D Printing an Entire Building

Looks like budding reporter Jordan Fox was on to something when she told her boss that 3D printers were newsworthy. The news intern pitches a story on the practical uses of 3D printers to her boss in book 4 of False Truth: A Jordan Fox Mystery Serial.

(You can find all the books in the False Truth serial HERE.)

You’ll have to read the books to find out how Jordan’s news pitch goes… but if I were her boss, I’d say she’s on the right track. 3D printers are officially more than just a toy. We know this for sure, now that we’re seeing an entire office building being printed in Dubai.

Not just a 3D model. The actual building.

The city of Dubai is partnering with 3D printing technology firm WinSun to print every piece needed to make the building, from structural components to furniture.

Granted, it’s a small office building at 2,000 feet.

But still. Pretty cool that this technology exists. Plus, making the building this way is said to cut the cost of labor by 50 to 80 percent, and should cut construction waste by up to 60 percent.

The United Arab Emirates is trying to demonstrate that it’s a world leader in cutting edge technology, especially in the field of 3D printing. Leaders believe that printing this building will help prove that the UAE is “becoming a global hub for innovation and 3D printing.”

Dubai is set to host the 2020 World Expo. This is one of several large-scale projects the city is taking on.

So does Jordan Fox’s boss take her idea for a 3D printing news story seriously?

Read False Truth: A Jordan Fox Mystery Serial to find out the answer, and find out how nothing in Jordan Fox’s life is as straightforward as she expects…

I’ve only watched as the 3D printer revolution has evolved. Making buildings by this technique is quite an interesting application and expansion of the concept. The building itself has a nice retro look.

Jeff, I’m absolutely fascinated by how rapidly the 3D technology has evolved.
