Lee Child’s Jack Reacher travels light. He carries a folding toothbrush, an ATM card, and an expired passport. Talk about bare bones travel, right? Hitching rides, taking the bus. No, thanks. Not my style at all.
Not FBI Special Agents Kim Otto and Carlos Gaspar’s style either. Their business is to Hunt for Jack Reacher. Which means traveling. A LOT. And to who-knows-where, who-knows-when, for who-knows-what, all on a moment’s notice. Their bags are always packed. Their passports are always ready. And their guns, of course. They don’t have the luxury of travel gadgets, but if they did….
Here are five travel gadgets that would come in handy for the constant traveler on the fly (and maybe for you, too??):
1. CONVERTIBLE CARRYING CASE
For Otto & Gaspar, business meetings run the gamut from rural roadsides to kitchen tables to formal galas. This luggage fits the bill. The water resistant case has backpack straps suitable for trudging through the outdoors. Without the exterior case, the elegant leather works well for meetings in big-city high rises. If Otto had this bag, she’d probably have room for a coat, right?

2. REMOTE CONTROLLED FOOT WARMERS
Can’t you hear these insoles calling Kim Otto’s name?! They’re perfect for someone who hates the cold as much as Kim does.
Having warm feet might ease the discomforts of traveling a bit, too. Using a remote control, you can set these insoles to No Heat, Medium (100 degrees) or High Heat (111 degrees). Plus, they’re water resistant. If I had to leave Florida in the winter, I’d be interested in these. How about you?

3. A VEST WITH 42 COMPARTMENTS
This vest is way too bulky for me or Reacher or Otto & Gaspar. But it could make life a lot easier for all of us.
Think of all the items Agents Otto and Gaspar need to keep within quick reach: gun, various printouts, passport, flashlights, gloves, evidence bags, phones, burner phones, and so much more. The vest even comes with a $1,000 anti-pickpocket guarantee.
4. WALLET NINJA
Surely Otto and Gaspar could use one of the 42 compartments in their travel vests to store this slender gadget. It’s completely flat, the size of a credit card, and it includes 18 tools in 1. The Wallet Ninja contains 4 screwdrivers, a box cutter, a can opener, a nail puller, a cell phone stand, and more. It would certainly come in handy when Otto and Gaspar need to do things like pry open windows; conduct quiet, stealthy recon; and act quickly under the cover of night. Probably be good for opening those top secret envelopes, too.
5. FINGERPRINT-UNLOCKING SUITCASE
Here’s one we could all live without, but it’s so techy and cool that we should all have it. The owner’s fingerprint or permission via the suitcase owner’s app is required in order to open the Planet Traveler SpaceCase 1 suitcase. The downside for Otto and Gaspar, and Reacher, too, is the included global tracker. But surely they could disable that, right?
Actually, after PERSONAL, Reacher had an up-to-date passport.
I am being sorta picky, though…I just reread it…
Bill–Listening to R. S. V. P. by Bonney James and Rick Braun and drinking…coffee of course…
Can’t wait for the next book.
While I could see him using the wallet and the foot warmers would be nice they require him to carry the remote control and I don’t think Reacher would like that.same with the vest, he couldn’t throw it away . The luggage? Not even a chance he would carry that around, he won’t even carry a backpack. However, on a personal note, I think they are all pretty cool for travel!
More possessions mean more problems for Reacher! For the rest of us on the other hand… hm….
I don’t remember exactly, but if memory serves me he does not travel with clean clothes, he prefers to purchase what he needs, when he needs it. I love all your books.
Yes, Hanna, you are correct about the clothes. And thanks for the compliment!
