Are You a SuperReader? (Lee Child is!)

I’ve always been a reader, of course. Since I was a child. Mom was a reader, and she passed that love of books on to me.

I’ve never actually counted. But I probably consume more than 100,000 words a day, between keeping up on my email, social media, news sources, researching the book I’m currently writing, and so on.

When a reader asked me, “Are you a SuperReader?” I had no clue what she meant. The “SuperReader” term was new to me. Have you heard it before?

Bookworm Humor

I read constantly. On my phone, when I can’t do it any other way,” I replied.

But that’s not what she meant.

She shook her head. “I read more than one book every day. SuperReaders read at least five complete books every week. Usually more.”

A book a day! Wow! Now, I have to agree that anyone who reads that many complete books every week is, indeed, a SuperReader. Don’t you think so?

So I began to ask this question of my friends. The last time we had lunch, I asked my friend Lee Child. “Are you a SuperReader?”

I felt better when he said, “I don’t know. What does it mean?”

After I explained it to him, he said, “Well, sure. I read at least a book a day. Sometimes more.”

And then, I was feeling like a slacker! (And wondering why Reacher never seems to be reading on those long bus rides…)

Which made me curious about your reading habits, too. How about you? How many books do you read each month? Each year? Are you a SuperReader? Who are your favorite authors?

Let me know. Just hit “comment” below and tell me. Inquiring minds need to know!
