So? What did I miss? I’m back home now, and I’ve just finished unpacking my bags from a thrilling trip to New York City!
The 11th annual ThrillerFest was held July 5-9, and this year’s conference of thriller writers was especially exciting for me.
My Hunt for Jack Reacher novel Jack and Joe was a Thriller Award Finalist for Best E-Book Original Novel! Congratulations to my friend Chris Kuzneski, who won! Thank you all for the good vibes and support. Definitely felt you there with me!
Let me catch you up in case you’re wondering: What exactly is ThrillerFest? It’s the premier conference for thriller enthusiasts. One of the goals of the event is to bring together authors, readers, publishers, producers, editors, and agents. And we certainly did that! I loved seeing and connecting with everyone. The conference includes panels, interviews, and workshops, all capped off by the awards ceremony. The Spotlight Guests this year were C.J. Box, Gillian Flynn, and Walter Mosley.
Friday morning started early with more panels than I could attend. Where’s my body double when I need her?
Some panels dealt with the business side of the industry. Others were about things like what kinds of weapons to use in different scenarios (all in a fictitious setting, of course), how writers should deal with medical topics, and how to get the facts right when writing legal thrillers set in a courtroom. As a lawyer, that’s one topic I’m already well versed in, thankfully!
Friday night, Random House hosted a cocktail party for us. It’s always exciting to enter a ballroom full of other authors. You never know who you’re going to meet or what kind of ideas fellow thriller writers in conversation will dream up!
Saturday afternoon we got to hear from Spotlight Guest Gillian Flynn, followed by Heather Graham interviewed by Lee Child. That was fun!
The Thriller Award Banquet capped off a fabulous weekend. And now, it’s good to be home. Back to work on Deep Cover Jack!
