A Thanksgiving Poem from a Thriller Writer

Dear Friends,

Normally I write with intrigue and thrill,
But today I decided I’d sit back and chill
And take a moment to appreciate you
Be thankful, relax, and have pumpkin pie, too.

It’s Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. of A.
Since 1863, a National Holiday
A perfect time to catch up on my reading
And wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving!

Pumpkin Pie

I know, I know. I’m not a poet. But I wanted to do a little something different today to show that I really am thankful for you, the reader! It may not be Thanksgiving Day where you live, but I still wish you a day full of many things that you are thankful for, whether it’s family, friends, a warm home, good food, happy memories, or time to read. What is it that you are most thankful for today? Leave a comment and let me know!

Some Thanksgiving Fun Facts:

  • The traditional cornucopia was a curved goat’s horn filled to brim with fruits and grains. (Source)
  • Fossil evidence shows that prehistoric relatives of turkeys roamed the Americas 10 million years ago. (Source)

Turkeys

  • Sarah Josepha Hale, a magazine editor who fought tirelessly in the 19th century to make Thanksgiving a national holiday, was also the author of “Mary Had A Little Lamb.” (Source)
  • The first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade included bears, camels, monkeys, and elephants from the Central Park Zoo. (Source 1 and Source 2)
  • The invention of frozen TV dinners was inspired by Thanksgiving leftovers. It happened in 1953, when Swanson severely overestimated the number of frozen turkeys Americans would eat on Thanksgiving day. Swanson then ordered thousands of aluminum trays, added a few sides, and sold frozen turkey as a part of individual meals — which we know today as TV dinners. (Source)

Don’t forget to leave a comment and tell me what you’re thankful for!

Americans have so many things to be thankful for…who could list them all.

Some of my family had to work on Thanksgiving, so we are celebrating another Thanksgiving tomorrow.

Hope you had a great one!
