Made a costume of Cousin IT from the Addams Family.
Hulk Hogan
My girlfriend and I dress up as babies one year. We had a ball that Halloween.
Hi Diane! Your question took be to a time long ago and my Mom asked me how I wanted to dress up for Hollween and since our teacher had recently read The Wizard of Oz to my class I wanted to be one of the characters in the story!
Of course most of my girlfriends would have picked being Dorothy what I wanted was a costume of Toto! When my son was the same age as was back then and he loved The Wizard of Oz as well I made HIM a costume of The Cowardly Lion! He’s in his 40’s now and my grandson is going to wear that very same costume this year for Holloween!
One year my husband built some real looking beer cans and we got inside them Couldn’t walk very good but we won the prize because no one knew who we were.
Bride complete with wilted. Flowers for bouquet and Frankenstein as groom
I usually just wore that year’s football uniform on Halloween. But one year I remember Mom mad me a snuffleupagus costume, complete with trunk and tail. I was the hit of the fifth grade!
My favorite costume was the year I went as the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz. Had so much fun making that costume out of cardboard boxes and painting them a silver color. I think I ended up using my mothers teapot for my oil can because my dad didn’t get home in time to get me his actual oil can. But had a lot of fun that year anyways.
When I was 14, my church youth group hosted a Halloween party. I bought an old man mask (the rubber one that covered your whole head). Borrowed my grandfather’s suit and my brother’s work boots. Everyone thought I was home sick, so no one knew it was really me until the end of the night.
My husband and I went to a large, well dressed and attended Halloween costume party that was so fun. I can sew, so I made him a Roman Soldier costume, with the skirt and breastplate, spear, sandals, he was a very good sport. I made and wore a toga, hot little number. We were much younger and enjoy the photo of ourselves when we were adventurous. It was a great night.
My favorite Halloween costume was when I was about 14 or so. I had been given (as a joke) a pair of camo Speedo type briefs. I got hold of a couple pieces of cloth that very closely matched the pattern, and sewed them to the briefs. Then I sewed a loop to the side, which I attached my hunting knife to. I went as Tarzan – bare feet and all. I was pretty miserable, though, as that year my home in Minnesota already had 6″ of snow on the ground.
We had to dressed up in are grandma’s cloths. They did not have costumes in my day. We had to make are own.
Halloween is my birthday, so I don’t normally dress up. My Son, Daughter in law and 2 grand daughters are going as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles this year.
One year I dressed in my son’s Army fatigues including the cap, boots but no weapon. It was a hit as it was in the midst of the Gulf War and he was in the Army reserves as a medic. Another year I dressed as a doctor in a white coat with a stethoscope around my neck and a face mask as well, ready for surgery. You might say I was trying to be in a different career than I was actually doing. These “costumes” made me feel I was living a role that I felt was adventuresome, doing something to help mankind. Meanwhile, I was a clerical support for a clinic and County Hospital, doing up forms and entering data. All costumes were worn during my work hours as it helped raise morale among the staff.
My favorite custom was the Tarzan and Jane’s custume. I went as Jane and my boyfriend went as Tarzan. We did shock a few of our friends.
I dressed up as a gangster. I had a black eye, smoked a cigar and dressed in gangster like clothes. I wore a lot of padding to make myself look muscular, and wore a gangster type hat. No one recognized me. It seems most gangsters you see are short people. Probably not as short as I am. I’m right at 5′ and weighed around 100 lbs, so you see why I had to make myself look much bigger than I was. Most people thought I was a guy.
My favorite was a 1920’s Flapper dress and headdress..it was really cool.
I was a California Raison one year and had a boombox playing Heard It Thru the
Grapevine.
whitch
I mean Witch!!!
I dressed like a southern belle with a Nebraska twist. My Mom made a hoop skirt with crinolines . I carried a harvested corn bouquet. The neighbor boy, dressed like a butler, carried my Halloween bucket and his bucket. I was ten years old and Jeffey was 8yrs. I do wonder what Jeffey is doing this Halloween?
My favorite was a vampire. Started when I was about 12 and ended when I was about 50. I started with a very basic costume and added something every year. Such as a plain black cape, the next year added a stand up collar in silver cloth, the next year I lined it with a red satin. Had a lot of fun and no one ever knew who I was until I laughed. Won several costume contests. Wish I had kept it.
I was a zombie! My boyfriend sculpted and made a mask custom for me.
I was Mother Nature. Flowered stochings , fall leaves gtued to bronze felt skirt, gren top with awhite capr that had fake snow on it and a wand made from a narly piece or wood that had streamers with flowers, snow drops, small autumn leaves and lightening bolts. Won 4 contests.it was the best costume I’d ever made for myself. Also one of best Holloweens.
When I was a 12 year old boy (1950), I dressed as a big busted woman: complete with ankle length dress (mom’s, green), mom’s wig, make up, heels, and water filled balloons for the busty part. You can guess what fun my friends had with the busts (bursts?), and where the water went. ~
Best Halloween costume ever: grapes – made from a McCalls pattern. Each grape – four pattern pieces – took an hour to cut, sew and stuff.
Warning! Never try to make a similar last-minute costume using green balloons. I tried it on exceptionally warm year and every single balloon burst before the Halloween party was over.
The very best costume worn as a child was a long flannel nightgown with night cap for bed.
With this, I also had a cane and eye glasses. It was awesome.
a witch costume
I had a fun cowgirl outfit I put together.
Hippie. Love beads. Bell bottoms. Tie die. All the stuff I wore the first time around for real, this time I borrowed them from my nieces.
Nothing new under the sun?
My husband and I were invited to an historical character theme party. I researched the clothing for Napolean and Josephine, and made the costumes. We wwere awesome!
Mine were all pretty mediocre. No one in my family had any creativity or costume skills. I probably liked my ballerina costume which was the outfit I wore for ballet class.
Tweety Bird costume that my sister made
My favorite costume was one made by my mother when I was about 13. I was Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, complete with short pigtails. My mom was always a fantastic seamstress; I don’t think I ever appreciated how superior her sewing was to what was sold in stores simply because she never made a big deal out of it or put any emphasis on it herself. Anyway, I not only wore the outfit as a costume for Halloween, it became a favorite part of my school wardrobe as well. I only wish a photo had survived that showed me wearing it; it’s still vivid in my mind, however.
My favorite costume was when I was really young my mom helped me dress up like Pippi Longstoking including my pigtails sticking straight out.
My colleagues at work were all size 3’s. I was not. I dressed as a baby with a baby hat, soother and a diaper over black pants.
My favorite costume was when a group of my friends and I dressed as M&M’s. One of each color and someone as the bag. I was the yellow M&M. I know, not scary but fun!
When I was about 8 we got a new vacuum. So my Dad cut out holes for my head and arms, he attached the hose to the box and I was a vacuum. It is a great memory.
A few years back I made a costume out of a black cape and hood. Then I got some hair curls that lit up at the ends of the hair to go over my head. I got some heavy white gloves sew lights on the end of the fingers and filled the gloves with sand. I pured water into the gloves so they would be cold and slippery. Then when someone rang the bell I asked them “will you shake hands with a gost for some candy”? When the child felt the cold gloves they would yell. I would give them a small bag of candy. We all had a big laugh.
He and I dressed up as Bonnie and Clyde. He is 6′ 4″ dressed as Bonnie and I am 5′ dressed as Clyde with a mustache.
My favorite costume I’ve worn for Halloween was a Little Red Riding Hood costume. Adorable!
My favorite Halloween costume was an orange and black Jester’s costume. Very sexy! LOL
I was a postcard complete with a stamp addressed to my grandmother
My favorite costume was when I dressed up as a tiger.
