Meet me in NYC for #ThrillerFest!

I have a personal mission to meet each and every one of you. After all, you are the best readers in the world, so why shouldn’t I make that my mission?? I don’t have a lot of public appearances this year, but I will be at ThrillerFest in New York City July 13-15, 2017, and I’d love to see you there!

Writing can be a rather solitary profession, so ThrillerFest is a great way to bring tons of authors together to meet each other, along with industry professionals, agents, and fans/thriller enthusiasts. You fall into one of those categories, right? The “Thriller Master” this year is Lee Child, so it’s sure to be a good time. If you are in the area, please let me know. I’d love to meet you in person!

For an inside sneak peek, check out the schedule for this year. So many great panels are on the docket. I’m having a hard time choosing which sessions I’ll attend — any advice? Leave a comment and give me some guidance here!

I’ve been attending ThrillerFest in NYC for years now (it’s an annual event), and, in fact, I was even one of the original members and served on the board of ITW — International Thriller Writers — for several years. It’s a great organization.

There have been so many terrific ThrillerFest memories for me. One of my favorites was creating the first ever Jack Reacher trial and presenting it at the very first ThrillerFest with Lee Child playing the role of Reacher, me as Judge, as ITW Members Paul Levine, Michelle Martinez, James O. Born, and David Dun role played their parts to perfection, too. I fondly recall interviewing ThrillerMaster Sandra Brown and rubbing elbows with ThrillerMasters James Patterson, Clive Cussler, and more. But perhaps the most memorable moment for me was when ThrillerMaster David Morrell serenaded me onstage at ThrillerFest 2007! What a surprise! And so much fun!

How many women have been serenaded on stage in front of hundreds of people by one of the most iconic characters of the past 50 years, Rambo’s father? At least one. That’s my story and I’ve got witnesses to prove it. David Morrell had a terrible case of laryngitis, but to me, he sounded as good as that other Canadian crooner, Michael Buble. What? You weren’t there? See for yourself!

There can be some wild and crazy times at ThrillerFest, as Lee Child, author of the Jack Reacher books, reminisces:

“My best moment came just before the first ThrillerFest in Phoenix – I arrived from Europe a day early because of airline issues and decided to spend the time in the Arizona Biltmore’s famous spa … so there I was, lounging around in nothing but a (very small) towel … and in walks Libby Hellman, also wearing nothing but a (very small) towel … we became friends fast and now when we meet we always say, sorry, didn’t recognize you with your clothes on.” – Lee Child

Seriously, let me know if you are going to be in the New York area July 13-15, and let’s make a plan to meet up!

Can’t make it? I have a few more appearances this year, including a book signing at Murder on the Beach in Delray Beach, Florida. You can find all my 2017 appearances here.

Kinda pricy for a plain ole jamoke workin’ stiff who ain’t a groupie. While I would enjoy the time, the likelihood of actually having the chance to even seeing you or Lee Childs, much less having a chance for the briefest of conversations are nil.

Probably will have more contact with you through your Twitter feed and Review Crew exchanges.

    Cool idea, though…
