Mystery and Murder in Paradise

From Diane Capri and Christine Kling

We hope you’ll join us on this journey. Oh, the places we’ll go!

Florida is Murder: Double Feature

One of my favorite reading/writing buddies is my friend Christine Kling. We’ve got a lot in common, including our new boxed set combining our first novels, Due Justice and Surface Tension. The set is called Florida is Murder Click on the book, check it out and Chris will become one of your favorites, too. For those of you who like to start at the beginning, here’s how it happened.

Once upon a time, the nomad and the snowbird ….

Chris and I have been friends for a couple of decades now (where does the time go?). We met at SleuthFest, a mystery writers’ conference in South Florida. Chris was a sailor turned teacher and I was a teacher turned lawyer.  We were avid mystery readers and aspiring mystery writers. The conference was a bold adventure for us both.

both had sand in their shoes ….

We especially loved Florida, our adopted home. Chris had moved to Florida from California, but she was a nomad at heart. I’d half-moved from Michigan, a snowbird in search of perpetual summer. In the beginning, the nomad and the snowbird had been living in the Sunshine State about the same length of time.

Travis on their minds ….

One of the things that brought us together was our favorite mystery author, John D. MacDonald, and his 21 books featuring iconic hero, Travis McGee. Chris loved Travis the salvage consultant and wrote a terrific series of four books (so far) featuring salvage consultant Seychelle Sullivan. I enjoyed Travis the problem solver and wrote a series of six books (so far) featuring Judge Willa Carson, problem solver extraordinaire. When you read these books, you’ll easily identify our Florida and McGee foundations.

Now, SleuthFest is a couple of decades old and we’ve traveled a long way and written a few million words in the process. We’ve learned a lot about reading, writing and about friendship as well.

and discovered Florida is Murder!

We’ve included our conversation as bonus material in  Florida is Murder Double Feature: Due Justice and Surface Tension.

Do you have sand in your shoes, too?

Join our conversation and come along for the ride, won’t you? If you enjoy this Double Feature, the nomad and the snowbird would love to hear from you! Tell us about your adventures and join ours as well. Where are you parked at the moment? Tell us in the comments below, won’t you?

As always, thanks for reading!

    Hi Diane, from sunny Florida!

I have read quite a few of your books and have loved all that I’ve read. I already have the Florida is Murder set, I won it back in July. I am embarrassed to admit that I have not yet read it. But much like my real bookshelves used to be, my virtual shelves tend to pile up and topple over with books I can’t wait to read. I will be reading Florida is Murder soon and will get back to you on it with what I’m sure will be a raving review.
I really enjoy your blogs, too, with the contests they make for a nice surprise in my email box.
Well, to let you know where our family is parked: Central Florida. It’s beautiful here, although extremely hot this time of year, the daily afternoon rains help to cool us down.

      Hi, Annie,

Hope you enjoy Surface Tension, too. Central Florida can be pretty hot in the summertime, for sure. Stay cool!

      Caffeinate and Carry On!
