The Road Ahead and Our Special Mother’s Day Gift for Mystery Fan Moms (and those of us who love them!)

Readers have been asking us, nicely of course: Now What? Fortunately, we’ve got lots to tell you.

Remember back in January, I blogged about my new adventures in publishing in What? Me? Indie?

We had spent months quietly learning and testing the systems with one new original suspense e-book, Annabelle’s Attack, and four backlist Judge Wilhelmina Carson mystery series novels. All were newly revised, retitled and reissued, sporting gorgeous new covers.

We’d tried and tweaked and perfected and were about to push the Publish button on the first book in our Hunt for Reacher suspense series, giving us seven live e-books. Man, was I nervous! You couldn’t tell that, right? You thought I was cool? Sure, you did. But thanks to you, I worried for naught.

Don’t Know Jack became an instant Amazon bestseller and really rocked the charts when Lee Child recommended it in his Reacher Report and again on Facebook. WOW, you Lee Child fans are amazing!!! Thank you all for giving Otto and Gaspar a chance to wiggle their way into the small spaces in your hearts that Jack Reacher doesn’t already fill.

We followed sixty days later with the Otto and Gaspar short story, Jack In A Box, and you pushed it onto the charts, too. As my mother-in-law used to say, “Now, we’re cooking with gas!”

Over the past year, (that’s right — a full year since we started the Indie Adventure! Yikes!) we’ve had so much fun. Readers have been generous with their encouragement and their praise. Thank you all for reading and recommending us to your friends.  Reviews are solid, e-mail from readers is positive and encouraging. With your help, our books have found an audience which we hope will continue to grow.

Yes, so far, it’s been quite a thrill ride.

Perhaps the best part has been hearing from all of you. Every day, I find several e-mails from readers, comments on our Facebook Page, and even a few Tweets.  This is about the most fun an author can have. My favorite questions from readers are always the ones asking for new books and new formats because it means you’re enjoying the books and want more of them. That is seriously cool! Which brings us to —

Where Do We Go From Here?

The road ahead through the end of this year is filling out nicely. Our plan is to release new books every two months, which is as quickly as we can accomplish everything and allow me to keep writing for our 2013 calendar without losing my mind! If you’re not on our mailing list to receive announcements of new books and you’d like to be, you can sign up for that HERE.

What’s Next?

We have a new stand alone thriller out on May 24 titled Fatal Distraction. We’ll have more on that and the rest of the books planned for 2012 release in the next few weeks, but for now, what do you think of the cover?

What About Paperbacks and Audio?

We’re planning paperback editions of Don’t Know Jack and Fatal Distraction by August, if the publishing gods smile on us. Paperback editions of all our books will come on line as we can get them finished.

Audiobooks are still on our wish list as we know they’re on some of yours, too.

And the Blog? What’s Happening There?

Honestly, you can help me with that, if you would. We’ve been wondering what kinds of things you’d like to read here. Any requests?

Diane Capri Reveals has been a popular segment, particularly when we’ve interviewed authors my readers enjoy, such as David Morrell and CJ Lyons and more. We’ve got some exciting authors lined up to be Revealed in the next few months. We’ll keep these coming to you until I run out of friends! If there’s anyone in particular you’d like us to Reveal, leave that in the comments below or drop us a note. We’ll do our best.

Behind the Book segments have also been popular. Readers enjoy knowing the stories behind the stories. Anything in particular you’re wondering about in any of my books? Just mention it in the comments below or drop me a note, and we’ll get to it.

As a special thank you and to celebrate, we’re offering free copies of our first five books from Amazon this month. No strings attached, but if you like the books, it would help us to get the word out if you clicked “like” on each book’s page and dashed off a quick review with appropriate stars when you’re finished. We do appreciate your help. We literally couldn’t do this without you!

Stop by the Amazon pages linked below to collect your reader appreciation gifts on these days:

Annabelle’s Attack on May 1 and 2;

Harper’s Hell on May 3 and 4;

George’s Game on May 7 and 8;

Carly’s Conspiracy on May 9 and 10;

And as a special Mother’s Day gift to all mystery reading moms (and those of us who love them!):

Kate’s Killing on Mother’s Day weekend, May 12 and 13.

So that’s the report on our Indie Adventure so far. It’s been a blast and our team is really looking forward to spending more time with you. Leave a comment below. Stop by. Drop us a note. Tell us what you want. We love to hear from you!

Until next time, thanks for reading and see you between the covers!

Diane

    Holy Cow Diane, You’ve been one busy girl! You must have some awesome help to get this all rolling out together and have the time to write. Or do you not sleep? LOL! The new book cover looks great. Congratulations Diane! You deserve it! 🙂

      Thanks, Karen! Sleep? We’re supposed to sleep?? Now you tell me!! LOL!!

    Congrats on your ongoing success, Diane! I admire you and your work so much. Thanks for giving us continual glimpses into your life and supporting other writers so wonderfully.

    Hmm… I’d love to hear more about your life. Any childhood stories to share? What’s your favorite way to spend non-writing time? What would surprise us about you? What’s a typical writing day like for you – if one exists? (Okay, stepping away from the blog post… ;))

    • Diane Capri May 1, 2012 at 6:20 pm #

      Thank you for the kind words, August. Glad you enjoyed the post. More about me? Well, check out the Q & A here: Discerning Readers Want to Know About Diane Capri: https://dianecapri.com/about-diane/

    Diane, congratulations on such a wonderful first year. You’re rocking the indie world and I’ve seen how hard you’ve worked to get these books out.

    • Diane Capri May 1, 2012 at 6:21 pm #

      Thanks, Sheila! Coming from a hard worker like you, I truly appreciate the kind words. This indie thing is tons of fun, don’t you think? I love it!

    We’ll need to start calling you Diane the Dynamo!

    What are you like!

    Great stuff. Annabelle’s Attack and Don’t know Jack is on my TBR pile and I will definitely like and do what I can to help.

    • Diane Capri May 2, 2012 at 8:31 am #

      Thanks, Christine! Glad you enjoyed the post and hope you love the books!

    Congratulations on a great first year! Can’t wait to see the new interviews. I’d like to know about the early ears of Diane, the writer. When you first decided to write, when you first went full time. And, how to you spend non-writing time. In other words, do a Diane Reveals on Diane!

    • Diane Capri May 2, 2012 at 8:33 am #

      You mean early “years” not “ears,” right, Lynnette?! Gotta love that “autocorrect” function — it does stuff like this to me all the time! LOL!! But just in case you’re serious: as far as the “ears” go, I’m a Disney Geek from way back!! Thanks for stopping by and for the suggestions. I always figure this blog is way too much about me as it is!

  7. Pat O'Dea Rosen May 2, 2012 at 2:04 pm #

    Christine is right to give you that dynamo label, Diane.

    I’d like to know more about your decision to stop practicing law in favor of writing fiction. A lot of writers have law backgrounds!

    • Diane Capri May 6, 2012 at 9:52 am #

      Well, Pat, thanks for the complement, but I don’t often feel like a dynamo! LOL! You’re right about many writers having law backgrounds. I think it’s because lawyering is basically writing and those of us who love practicing law also love writing. Kind of goes together nicely.

    Kates Killing not coming up free on May 12 on Amazon.

    • Diane Capri May 15, 2012 at 2:39 pm #

      HI, Pat,

      I believe we go this resolved and you were able to get your free copy of Kate’s Killing. But if not, please do let me know and we’ll solve that problem right now!
