4 More Gorgeous Spots to Read in Florida

Since many of my mystery and thriller books are set in Florida, I told you last time about 3 of the best spots to read in Florida. But Florida has so much to offer, I couldn’t stop at three.

Here are 4 more of the best spots in Florida for bookworms to settle in with a good book, year-round:

  1. The campus of the University of Tampa

The University of Tampa sits just across the river from downtown Tampa. Its campus is similar to the one featured in my serial False Truth: A Jordan Fox Mystery, where a rookie TV reporter gets wrapped up in mysteries she was never supposed to know about. During the school year, you can find students on blankets and benches all over campus, doing their reading outside. I highly recommend taking an afternoon to grab a good book and do the same.

2. The Hidden Springs

No matter where you are in Florida, you’re never far from a body of water. Since Florida is a peninsula, some of those bodies of water are obvious. But did you know about Florida’s Hidden Springs? Reading beside a spring is like reading on the beach, minus the need for an umbrella! (But keep an eye out for alligators!)

3. Siesta Key

John D. MacDonald’s character Travis McGee lived on a houseboat in Ford Lauderdale. But the author himself lived on Siesta Key. How great would it be to take a book to the beach there, and soak in the same vibes that fed MacDonald’s imagination??

4. Oxford Exchange

On the hottest of Florida days, when even the shade isn’t enough, one might opt to take a reading expedition indoors. For such an occasion, you can’t beat the unique coffee shop/cafe/bookstore called Oxford Exchange. I guarantee is unlike anything you’ve ever seen.
