How To Escape Duct Tape Handcuffs

We’ve talked some here on my blog (here and here) about the very real dangers of being kidnapped. Abducted. Held for ransom. Something along those lines happens to Jordan Fox in the False Truth Mystery Serial. In the process, Jordan’s wrists are duct taped together in front of her.

False Truth

Jack Reacher’s Rules teaches us that “The width of a person’s wrists is the best indicator of his or her strength.”

Would you be strong enough to free yourself from wrists bound with duct tape? Turns out, there’s a trick to escaping duct tape handcuffs that doesn’t require you to be a body builder with broad wrists.

I haven’t tried it, but supposedly, you can raise your arms above your head, then thrust them down towards your sides with as much force as you can muster. The force will tug laterally on the duct tape, putting stress on the cross sections, and will cause it to break. You can watch the video for a demonstration:

Apparently the same idea works if your hands are duct taped around your wrists behind your back. Raise your wrists as high as you can, then slam them down towards your sides. I’ve read you can use the same technique with zip ties, too. The trick is to not hold back, and really give it all you’ve got. In the case of wrists bound with zip ties, there’s also a chance you might be able to wiggle out.

If only Jordan Fox had known these tips in False Truth! Her solution was a lot more difficult….
