Saturday Special: Oscars Edition

The Oscars are this weekend, which is practically a national holiday in the United States.
Will you be watching?

I love movies and I’ve seen most of the nominees.

Here are the nominees for the Academy Award for Best Picture:

American Sniper, Birdman, Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, Selma, The Theory of Everything, and Whiplash.

Have you seen any of these?
I saw American Sniper. Excellent production values and of course, excellent acting. Eastwood is a master.

Boyhood was a very interesting achievement. It took 12 years to film because they filmed the boy as he actually grew up.

The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything are both excellent. Highly recommended!

The Washington Post says The Grand Budapest Hotel should win Best Picture but it says the movie probably won’t win, because the narrative, while “wildly entertaining”, lacks heft. I enjoyed this one and it has many laugh out loud moments.
What do you think? If a story is told just for fun, does that make it less valuable?

I haven’t seen the others, Selma, Whiplash and Birdman — yet.

TIME considers Birdman the frontrunner for the Best Picture Academy Award, and I still haven’t seen it!
According to Reuters, Birdman is about a “washed-up former superhero actor trying to make a comeback.” You all know I love a good underdog! That’s something all of the “superheroes” in my books have in common. 🙂

So? Which, if any, of the above movies are on your must-see list?

I have only seen The Grand Budapest Hotel. Funnily enough it was on TV last night had to watch it again. I loved it. I think it was brilliant, loved the comedy scenery and enjoyed the actors hope it wins.
