How Many Books Do You Read At Once?

This week and every week, I’m reading a pile of books, and I wondered if you all would think I’m crazy. Is it unusual to read several books at once?

What do you think? Do you prefer to read one book at a time? Or do you read several at once?

Owl Reader

I usually read one fiction and lots of nonfiction. In fiction, I need the continuity of the story or I forget the important stuff! Maybe all those years of lawyering taught me to read nonfiction in chunks, or something?

These are the struggles of bookworms. Am I right? And this is exactly the kind of reason we are celebrating readers with a January Reader Appreciation Event!

It’s also the reason for the latest Flight 12 Giveaway. Have you entered? A $100 gift card is up for grabs!
Not one, but TWO new Flight 12 books were released this week! Check out the latest books by Joshua Graham and Brett Battles HERE.

If you’re reading this on Saturday, January 17th, there are just 3 days until my latest Willa Carson thriller, Cold Justice, is released!

Mark it on your 2015 Diane Capri Calendar!

And while you’re at it, mark January 26th. That’s when False Truth 7: A Jordan Fox Mystery comes out.

False Truth 7

Beth Dexter and I hope you’re loving the series!

I read several books at a time. Both fiction and non-fiction. I wouldn’t know how to only read one book at a time.

Exactly, Pat. I think reading multiple books at once enhances the overall experience. Sounds like you’re with me 🙂

I am sorry but I don’t do rafflecopter. I do gone on the authors site and inter there contest. I love to go on the authors site to see what is new and what new book is coming out. Love to read your site. You always have something interesting on it.
Sometimes I do have more then one book going. My mind is old, so I just do one at a time.

I can only read one book at a time. It takes me a while to do that as much as I have to do. Sometimes, I have to even go back in the book because I forget what has happened since I last read. Sometimes I wish I could just go on a long vacation and do nothing but read.

I sometimes read a couple at a time, but I’m so with Anita on this one . Too many books, too little time. Nowadays, one at a time’s all I can manage. Between judging contests, editing for my critique partner, and trying, trying! to get some of my own writing done…well, one book at a time it is. An hour at the end of each day is a treat to myself LOL

Yes usually have 3 going at one time and trying to get them finished so I can start new ones. Too many good books out there to only read one.(LOL)

I am usually reading a minimum of 3 books at a time, sometimes as many as 5

I read one book at a time. However, I listen to audio books while working.

    • Diane January 17, 2015 at 3:18 pm #

Terry, here’s a question — do you then listen to just one audio book at a time or do you have multiple audio books going at once? (Obviously not at the exact same time… 🙂 )

I read several at a time, mostly fiction. If a story is particularly good I will read it straight through without any others.

Patricia, I love that feeling of not being able to put a book down and reading only one book at a time “by accident.”

I’m usually reading three books at any given time. One on the exercise bike for the morning (this is usually a print or ebook along with the audiobook for a read/listen); an audiobook for whenever I can listen (cooking, cleaning, driving to work, etc.); and a book/ebook on the nightstand for bedtime reading. When people ask how I can read more than one book at a time I just ask them how many TV shows they watch in a week.

Oh I always have several going at once! I read on my Kindle and lately I’ve been making sure I leave reviews on Goodreads too. Every time I click that button “mark as reading now” on Goodreads I wonder what people must think about the 7 books I have going!

I have to say I’ve never actually visited your website – just followed you on twitter. The books all lined up on the slider at the bottom here are tempting me! I’m off to check them out!

I am always reading two books at once…………one on my Kindle in the family room and a hardback in my den……………..

I’m reading 2 fiction….1 on my iPad & 1 hardcover at this time. I read many Christian books….I’ve got at least 2-3 paper & 2-3 I read on my iPad. Every chance I get I pick something up to read & definitely before I go to sleep at night. I don’t think it’s crazy to have a ton of books started…..I’ve done it all my life!!!!! Of course being retired helps, but I do a lot of volunteering, am active in my church & do a lot of crafty/re-purposing stuff, so I don’t just read! I do love your books Diane Capri!!!

I usually have three books going at one time.

I read several books at once. I just can’t stick to one storyline and need a little of a mix to finish through.

  15. Debbie Booher January 24, 2015 at 6:27 pm #

I only read 1 book at a time. I read mostly fiction suspense but i read non fiction and true crime too.

  16. Trevor Dennis January 29, 2015 at 3:43 pm #

Usually two. One on a Kindle, and an audio book on my iPhone. When I was younger I forced myself to get a mix of fiction and non fiction from the public library, but I have to admit the non-fiction barely got more than a flick through if the fiction was really good.

But nowadays we have the Internet — the perfect research tool. By heck, I make good use of that!

Thank you for expanding the Reacher universe Diane. I love you for that.
